K-ion batteries (KIBs) have attracted much attention as a replacement for Li-ion batteries (LIBs) due to the inexpensive and earth-abundant of elemental K. Similar to LIBs, graphite can use as an anode material because the K-ions can intercalate into the interlayers in graphite. However, the reversible capacity (200-250 mAh g-1) and initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) of graphite anode are insufficient. Here, to overcome the shortcoming of graphite anodes for KIBs, we introduce a carbon-based anode by two-step approach of amorphization and pre-potassiation of carbon black. The carbon-based anode delivers a high reversible capacity (300 mAh g-1) with high ICE(>100%), high rate capability, and stable cycle retention after 300 cycles.
