Au NPs were homogeneously synthesized on graphene nanosheets (GNS) via adsorption and reduction of corresponding precursors, and used as catalytic template for growth of iron oxide (IO). We found that IO NPs remarkably grow into needlelike structures on Au NP-coated graphene (GNS/AuNP). In these composite structures, metal NPs act as a spacer for preventing aggregation of GNSs. However, their specific surface areas are still far from theoretical value. Furthermore, it has been reported that bimetallic system shows the enhanced catalytic activity due to a synergetic effect, compared to monometallic one. We focus on the GNS composites made of multiple phases (GNS/metal/metal oxide/ceramic) that could have important properties and applications. With the benefit of the large specific surface area of the GNSs, the resulting composites can exhibit enhanced properties for adsorption, catalysis, or sensing applications. |
