In this study, macroporous polymer beads were synthesized via suspension polymerization ofa mixture of divinylbenzene and 4-vinyl pyridine, followed by methylation of pyridine moieties with iodomethane. The FT-IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis confirmed that the polymers were successfully prepared and functionalized. Physical properties of the polymer beads such as BET surface area, pore volume, apparent density, and pore sizes were measured. Dynamic adsorption behaviors of the polymer beads with different polarity toward nonpolar benzene were studied. Isothermal desorption and microwave-assisted desorption of benzene from the polymer beads with purging humid air were also attempted. |
