Metal Organic Framework compounds (MOF) are a new class of materials that have many potential applications such as gas storage, separation, material recognition, and catalyst. Despite the fact that MOF-5 is the representative micro-porous materials, there are still unsolved drawback about their stability under humid air: MOF-5 easily changes its phase to another phases when it is exposed to humid air. In our study, we tried to solve the drawback by simply mixing the identical types of ligands composed of Benzene dicarboxylic acid (BDC, B) and BDC derivatives (Cn, n=5, 6, 7) which are have aliphatic side chains like pentyloxy, hexyloxy, heptyloxy(-O-(CH2)nCH3, n=5,6,7) at 2,5 positions of the benzene ring to synthesis new IRMOF-5, CnB. Finally, we confirmed improved chemical and thermal stability of CnB by the partial addition of hydrophobic side chain to protect metal cluster sites. |
