Blending Nickel Nanoparticles into poly(3-hexylthiophene):[6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester enhances the Efficiency of polymer solar cells |

We’ve developed the high efficient hybrid photovoltaic cells including an active layer of poly(3-hexylthiophene):[6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester(P3HT:PCBM) blended with highly electrically conductive nickel nanoparticles(Ni NPs). Hybrid bulk-heterojunction solar cells with an ITO/PEDOT/P3HT:PCBM:Ni NPs/Al was fabricated. To increase mobility of the charges in the hybrid photovoltaic cells, we incorporated the Ni NPs exhibiting an increase in Power Conversion Efficiency. In addition, high workfunction of the Ni NPs prevents exciton quenching within the Ni NPs due to the hole blocking properties. Consequently, the short-circuit current density of the polymer solar cells was improved after blending Ni NPs into the P3HT:PCBM active layer. |
