Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Deep-Blue Phosphorescent Iridium Complexes with Picolinic acid N-Oxide as the Ancillary Ligand for High Efficiency Organic Light-Emitting Diode Applications |

A new series of highly efficient deep-blue emitting phosphorescent Ir(III) complexes, (F2ppy)2Ir(pic-N-oxide)and(F2CF3ppy)2Ir(pic-N-oxide),based on phenylpyridine (ppy) main ligand and picolinic acid N-oxide (pic-N-O) ancillary ligand, were synthesized for phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PhOLEDs), and their photophysical, electrochemical, and electroluminescent (EL) properties were investigated. All of the Ir(III) complexes form high quality amorphous thin films by thermal evaporation and the energy levels can be easily adjusted by the introduction of different electron donating. The Ir(III) complexes show high phosphorescent quantum yields. Remarkably, high performance PhOLEDs were fabricated using Ir(III) complexes with a pic-N-oxide ancillary ligand as the emitter and showed bright emission with excellent deep-blue CIE coordinates with an external quantum efficiency of 23.3 % , current efficiency of 36 cd/A, and high power efficiency of 17.3 lm/W. |
