In organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), carbazole derivates can usually be used as host materials for both small-molecule OLEDs (CBP) and polymer OLEDs (PVK) due to their high triplet energy and good hole-transporting ability. To effective energy transition from carbazole to Ir(III) complex, the 2-(2,4-difluoro-3-hexylcarbazolephenyl)-4-methylpyridine (Car-dfpmpy) was synthesized and heteroleptic Ir(III) complexes with Car-dfpmpy were prepared and characterized; (Car-dfpmpy)2Ir(acac) (1), (dfpmpy)2Ir(biimid) (2) and (dfpmpy)2Ir(picN-O) (3), where acac=acetylacetone, biimid=biimidazole and picN-O=picolinic acid N-oxide. The electrochemical and luminescent properties were investigated. The complexes 1, 2 and 3 showed sky blue and green electroluminescence and maximum current efficiencies of 20.7, 9.4 and 2.8 cd/A, maximum quantum efficiencies of 7.16, 1.15 and 3.51 and the CIE of (0.21, 0.55), (0.22, 0.48) and (0.23, 0.41), respectively. |
