Gaseous nitrocarburizing is a thermochemical surface treatment often used to improve the thermal/mechanical fatigue and wear properties of steel. This study compared and analyzed the wear characteristics of AISI H13 steel by gas nitrocarburizing according to CO2 gas flow rate. The process was performed at 570° C. for 5 h with NH3 gas and CO2 gas flow rates (1%, 3%, 5%). It was fixed at Kn = 3. The microstructure of the gas nitrocarburizing surface-treated specimen was analyzed by SEM and OM, and the phase was analyzed by XRD. As a result, a single phase α- (Fe, N) or ε-Fe2-3N / γ`-Fe4N phase was observed on the surface, and the compound layer thickness and surface hardness increased as the CO2 gas flow rate increased. In order to evaluate the wear resistance, analysis was performed by ball-on-disc test. The thicker the compound layer, the better the wear resistance. However, the poor wear properties at high load conditions. |
