Improved performance of Polymer-Quantum Dot Hybrid Solar Cells using Sequential Ligand Exchange and elimination |

To develop an efficient polymer-quantum dot (QD) hybrid solar cell, it is important to improve electronic interaction between donor polymer and acceptor QDs. However, the change in surface ligands, surface states, and the correlated device performance corresponding to the surface modification method are still remained as intricate problems. Therefore, a systematic study between surface chemistry and device physics is required to improve the performance of polymer-QD hybrid solar cells. In this work, we report a sequential strategy on the surface treatment of CdSe QDs for P3HT:CdSe QD bulk-heterojunction solar cells. We found that sequential surface treatment using hexanoic acid and hexylamine effectively replaced oleate ligands on CdSe QDs. Reduction in ligand shell thickness and the surface passivation by hexylamine result in efficient charge carrier transport and increased power conversion efficiency. |
