Porous materials have been widely used in separation membrane applications. Various synthetic strategies have been developed through porosity control, surface functionalization, and pore shape. In energy storage devices, especially lithium-ion batteries, suitable design of multifunctional copolymers can be applied to polymeric separator with high porosity and binder with strong adhesive forces. Herein, we fabricated multi-functional copolymer separators which have multiscale self-assembled porous structure and chemical functionality by combining non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) with nanophase separation of copolymers. We modified surface functional group of copolymers to control the surface energy, resulting in the formation of dual porous structure during NIPS process. Finally, we investigated the excellent electrochemical properties of copolymer-based separators in full-cells consisting of spinnel lithium titanate anode and lithium cobalt oxide cathode. |
