Renewable raw materials are playing a very noteworthy role in the development of sustainable green chemistry. They offer a large number of possibilities in applications which can be rarely met by petrochemistry. Castor oil (CO) is sustainable efficient green chemical. For the further modification of CO, the epoxidation of CO is usually required. The epoxidation of CO with performic acid can be generated in situ by the reaction of 30 wt% hydrogen peroxide with formic acid. Polyol from CO can be prepared by the ring opening of epoxy groups from epoxidized castor oil. The resultant products are confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and OH value calculation. |
