In last stages of manufacturing process of 1,5 PDO, the separation, purification and concentration has to be carry out, but these processes are very complicated since it need multi stage distillation as well as larger facility area therefore turn in to the energy and cost intensive process. Therefore, PDMS-Polysulfone based pervaporation polymeric composite membranes has developed to effectively remove trace amounts of IPA with low energy consumption from IPA and 1,5 Pentane diol/IPA feed mixture system (organophilic approach). The optimization of the pervaporation output done by, 1) changing the crosslinking agents (TEOS, PhTMS, OTMS) for PDMS crosslinking, 2) varying operating parameter in PV operation as well as 3) varying poly sulfone support morphology. And, Overall, the it was found that, not the PDMS active layer chemistry but the changed in morphology of Poly sulfone support significantly affect the pervaporation output for the separation 1,5 PDO/IPA separation. |
