제목 Evaluation of Biocompatible Zwitterionic PEG Grafted on Chemisorbed Nitinol-Au surface
초록 Blood-compatible biomaterials have been of importance for a variety of medical applications. In this study, we have tested a Nitinol-Au whose surface was grafted with zwitterionic PEG, with the aim of development of peripheral arterial stent. Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) is blood-compatible and sulfobetaine (-N+-SO3-), a well-known class of zwitterionic polymer is biocompatible as well. After gold-coated Nitinol (Nitinol-Au) was chemisorbed by L-cysteine, cysteamine, and 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA), the zwitterionic PEG (PEG-N+-SO3-) was grafted onto the chemisorbed Nitinol-Au through the thiol group (-SH). The modified Nitinol-Au surfaces were characterized by electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA), attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR), and water contact angle measurement. The blood compatibility between surface-modified Nitinol-Au and blood components was also evaluated using plasma protein adsorption and platelet adhesion tests.
