A numerical study on carbon conversion of the coal gasification in an entrained-flow coal gasifier using equilibrium model |

Coal gasification continues to play an important role in coal utilization due to the improving energy efficiency in industries. The Integrated Gasification Combined-Cycle (IGCC) technology is one of the key technologies to provide an efficient and economic method for the power generation from coal with substantially reduced emission of carbon dioxide and pollutant gases. The entrained-flow coal gasifier is mainly used in IGCC plants since this reactor can achieve high rates of gasification, and produce a relatively clean gas. The quick prediction of gasifier performance is very important for the stable operation of IGCC plants. In this study, a two-stage equilibrium model (Yoshida et al., 2008) is used to predict the carbon conversion in an entrained-flow gasifier. The model is separated into two stages including solid-vapor stage and vapor-vapor stage. Carbon conversion is estimated from the first stage with solid-vapor reactions and gas productions are calculated from the vapor-vapor reactions in the second stage. The effects of temperature,O2 to coal ratio, andH2O to coal ratio on the gasification performance are also examined. |
