Electrorheological(ER) fluids containing electrically polarizable particles dispersed in insulating oils exhibit fascinating field-induced rheological properties such as rapid and reversible changes in suspension microstructures under external electric field. In this study, we investigated the rheological properties as the function of voltage with sepiolite and heat-treated sepiolite and analyzed the influence of the change of crystal structure by heat-treat on electrorheological properties. To prepare heat-treated sepiolite, a furnace was used at 900℃ for 90min. MCR 302(Anton paar) was used to measure rheological properties. Sepiolite was changed its crystal structure and dielectric constant after heat treatment, these changed properties induced the different electro-reactivity. Finally, dielectric constant of heat-treated sepiolite was higher than sepiolite, it caused the increased electro-reactivity and field-induced rheological properties. |
