Polyurethaneurea resins are employed in a broad range of uses and application, including machinery, adhesive, coatings, molding material and paint. Polyol is the most important raw material in the preparation of polyurethaneurea, since it influences on the chain structure of polymer, thus both physical and chemical properties of polyurethaneurea. Particularly, the amount unsaturated chains which is unavoidably formed by isomerization followed by termination during polymerization of a propylene oxide have detrimental effect on the properties of resulting polyurethaneurea. In the study the effect of unsaturation level of the polyol on the properties of polyurethaneurea by changing the amount of unsaturation from 0.005 meq/g, which was produced by newly developed multi-metal catalyst to 0.035 meq/g, which was produced by conventional KOH catalyst. The high performance polyether polyol, poly tetramethylene glycol (PTMEG) was also used for the comparison. The unsaturation level contained in the polyols was demonstrated to be a decisive factor to achieve high performance polyurethaneurea.
