In this study, polylactide (PLA)/halloysite nanotube(HNT) nanocomposites were prepared by in situ ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide in the presence of small amounts of surface-hydroxylated HNTs. Morphology, thermal and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were characterized by FE-SEM, TGA, DSC, DMA and tensile testing. FE-SEM and FTIR analysis showed uniform dispersion of HNT in the PLA matrix and demonstrated a strong interfacial interaction between the PLA matrix and HNT. PLA/HNT nanocomposites exhibited improved thermal stability and mechanical properties compared with pure PLA. |
