In solvent-induced dewetting of thin film, the van-der Waals interaction, and the polar interactions induce the dewetting of the thin film. The polar interactions are varied with the hydrophilicity of the substrate. We investigated the solvent-induced dewetting of the PMMA films on the self-assembled monolayers(SAMs). To control the hydrophilicity of the Si substrate, octadecyltrichlorosilane(ODTS) were used for SAMs treatment with the UV exposure time. With the hydrophilicity, the dewetting behaviors of PMMA thin films were different. In the low UV exposure time, the dewetting behavior of the PMMA films was the type B in the rim instability. In type B, after forming of holes, rims were formed at the perimeter of the holes, and rims undulated at a certain wavelength. Undulations of rims lead to formation of fingers, and consequently droplets were formed. In the high UV exposure time, that of the PMMA films was type A, and the droplets were not formed. |
