Crystal Orientation of Poly(ethylene oxide) in Cylindrical Nanopores |

The physical behaviors of polymers under nanoscopic confinements have been of scientific interest during the past few decades. Investigation of polymer crystallization behavior within nanoscopic confinements is an important area in polymer physics due to the potential applications of crystalline polymers as well as scientific interest. Here, we show the crystalline structures associated with melting and crystallization behaviors of monodisperse poly(ethylene oxide) confined in cylindrical nanopores using XRD and calorimetric measurements. The crystal orientation, melting and crystallization behaviors of PEO under the imposed confinement were noticeably different from those of the bulk state and cylinder-forming PS/PEO diblock copolymers. Crystal orientation did not change with crystallization temperature or diameter of nanocylinders. |
