The synthesis of block copolymers using dual initiators has attracted considerable attention due to the limited number of synthesis steps and the possibility of a one-step process. In the present study, well-defined amphiphilic poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone)-b-poly(L-lactide) (PVP-b-PLA) block copolymers were synthesized at 60 °C using a hydroxylfunctionalized xanthate RAFT agent, 2-hydroxyethyl 2-(diphenylcarbamothioylthio)propanoate, as a dual initiator for RAFT polymerization and ROP in a one-step procedure. The molecular weights of the resulting polymers were determined by GPC and the mole fraction of each unit in the block copolymers was confirmed by using 1H-NMR spectroscopy. To the best of our knowledge, this one-step process is the most convenient method for the synthesis of PVP-b-PLA block copolymers. |
