New Architecture of Hybrid Solar Cells with Amorphous Silicon and Fullerene Derivative |

Hybrid solar cells based on organic and inorganic materials are a promising way to improve the peerformance of solar cells through better use of the solar spectrum and the good processability of the materials. We report on a new hybrid solar cell comprised of silicon and a fullerene derivative which act as a light absorber and an electron acceptor, respectively. The properties of solar cells are studied as a function of the thickness of the hydrogenated amorphous Silicon layer. The open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current are observed to depend on the Si thickness. Under simulated one sun A.M. 1.5 global illumination (100 mW cm-2), an optimal power conversion efficiency of 2.84% was achieved with the device which is made of 274 nm thickness of a-Si:H. |
