Colorimetric textile sensor became one of the most promising systems for detecting analytes because it provides naked-eye distinguishable signals. To fabricate colorimetric sensor, dip-dyeing with colorimetric dye is a common method to fabricate a sensor changing its color. However, dip-dyeing has critical shortcomings such as low wash fastness and environmental problems derived from wastewater. Instead, UV-induced dyeing is a better process because of its lowered energy consumption, enhanced wash fastness and enlarged applicability. Accordingly, halochromic dye which contains photoactive group was prepared through a modification of phthalein dyes. In addition, we fabricated cotton colorimetric sensors via LED-UV irradiation process grafting halochromic dye onto fabric surface. Furthermore, colorimetric property of the grafted cotton sensors was measured under basic condition and, color-changing characteristic before and after washing cycles were also investigated for wash fastness. |
