Poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) Composite Fibers Containing Nano-Zinc Oxide and Carbon Nanofibers |

In order to improve UV resistance and compressive strength of poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) (PBO) fibers, PBO composite fibers containing both nano-zinc oxide (ZnO) and carbon nanofiber (CNF) were prepared by in-situ polymerization and dry-jet wet spinning. Polarized optical microscopy images displayed a lyotropic liquid-crystalline phase in the as-polymerized dopes. Solution viscosity measurements revealed that the molecular weights of the composite fibers were higher than 1.6×104 g mol-1. UV irradiation was conducted on the composite fibers. The mechanical properties investigated with tensile test and the elastica loop test. The UV resistance and compressive strength of the composite fibers will be discussed. |
