Preparation of functional polythiophenes and their application for detection of C-reactive protein |

The preparation of new thiophene derivatives with pendant N-hydroxysuccinimide ester groups and their polymers is reported. The polymerization was carried out with FeCl3 in chloroform. The resulting polythiophenes were soluble in common organic solvents (DMSO, DMF, chloroform, etc.) and characterized by NMR and FT-IR. These polymers are able to react with different amine-bearing molecules to yield new polythiophene derivatives and the interactions could be detected from modifications of side chain. Thus, self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) using the thiophene derivatives and the polymers were formed on a gold-coated quartz cell and anti-CRP (C-reactive protein) was immobilized on the surface. The binding behavior of CRP was monitored by use of SPR (surface plasmon resonance) sensor system. |
