제목 | CFD modeling for the geometry design and scale-up of the polymerization reactor |
초록 | In the polymerization process, product quality and grade are mainly determined by the molecular weight distribution (MWD). However, the MWD generation inside of the reactor is easily affected by the non-ideal mixing in industrial scale, because the polymer reaction occurs much faster than species transport in large scale. Therefore, the flow pattern should be properly understood and designed during scale-up and reactor design process. Thus, this study proposes a platform model to investigate the scale and reactor geometric effect on the flow pattern and resulting MWD generation inside a reactor. To reduce the computation burden caused by MWD calculation within full CFD runs, PGF transformation is proposed. In this transform, each molecular term is projected on virtual z-domain, so the reaction is efficiently solved on virtual z-domain in CFD, then inverse-transformed to original domain. The model successfully revealed the effect of length/diameter ratio and blade geometry on the product MWD. |
