Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) is the most widely studied smart polymer in recent past because of its thermo-sensitive phase transition at the lower critical solution temperature (LCST). In particular, thermo-responsive PNIPAM microspheres have extensively attracted scientific interest due to their potential applications in numerous fields, such as drug delivery systems, stimuli-responsive actuators, and sensors. We demonstrate PNIPAM microspheres of various morphologies by controlling polymerization temperature, polarity of continuous phase, initiator type in UV photo-polymerization of inverse (water-in-oil, W/O) emulsions. |
