제목 Improvement of LC Alignment and LCD Properties by Post-treatment Process in the Photo-aligned LCDs
초록 Liquid crystal displays(LCDs) require a uniform alignment of liquid crystal(LC) molecules, which is achieved with an alignment layer(AL) treated by the mechanically or photochemically processes. Theses treatments change the AL surface property and could produce the undesirable fragments, such as rubbing debris and photoreaction by-products, on it. These remains of the LC alignment process are expected to deteriorate the LC alignment quality and the LCD electro-optical properties. In this work, how the wet cleaning of the photochemically treated AL affects both the LC alignment and the LCD properties has been investigated, applying various treatment conditions. A proper wet cleaning of the treated ALs, especially the photochemically treated AL and the following thermal drying/annealing process turned out to make the AL surface properties better with removing the photoreaction by-products. The effects of the wet cleaning and its conditions are more remarkable for the photo-alignment.
