Photo-sensitive microspheres were prepared by alginate -cinnamic acid by emulsion method. Alginate was used to prepare W/O emulsion, then adding calcium chloride as a cross-linker to form the gel, filtrating and washing, we obtain the microsperes. Cinnamic acid, which is usually used as photo-sensitive material for its double bond is readily dimerized and de-dimerized under the cyclic irradiation of UV light (365nm and 254 nm), was conjugated to alginate due to the esterification between the carboxy group of cinnamic acid and the hydroxy group of alginate. According to the microscope photograph and SEM, the microspheres were spherical shaped and the mean size were about 10µm. Due to the dimerization of cinnamic acids under the UV irradiation (λ=365 nm) and dedimerization at 254 nm, the trapped guest molecules like FITC-dextran, one kind of dye to use as a model, could be released from this microspere. Around 40% was released in 3h according to our study. |
