A photocatalyst with high reactivity under visible light is required to use solar radiation efficiently for the reduction of environmental toxins, such as NOx, SOx, VOC, etc., on a local and global scale. TiO2 is known to be one of most effective photocatalyst for the degradation of organic pollutants but it is effective only under ultraviolet irradiation (λ<380 nm) because of its band gap size. It is, therefore, of interest to find the way to extend the wavelength range of TiO2 into the visible region. A number of studies have been carried out to reach this goal. They include transition metal doped TiO2 prepared by metal ion-implantation methods, sol-gel method, or chemical vapor deposition method. |
