Competitive CO2 permselectivity of CHA type zeolite is attributed to its proper pores consisted of molecular dimensions for the preferential adsorption of CO2 molecules. Particularly in this paper, seeded growth of CHA type zeolite particles and membranes were carried out without organic structure directing agent (OSDA) or template. Acquisiton of dependable conditions for continuous CHA membranes took strenuous effort. After careful study, Si/Al ratio of about 50 was the optimal condition for synthesizing high reproducible template-free CHA membranes. CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 separation factors were up to 12.5 ± 3.8 and 28.8 ± 6.9, respectively. CO2 permeance of template-free CHA zeolite was also reasonable. Noticeably, under the wet condition, because of the intensive adsorption of H2O vapor, permeation was inhibited under 50 °C. |
