Hyper-crosslinked tetraphenylboron (TPB-X) had previously been demonstrated to sequester metal ions via ion exchange and cation-π interactions. One important property of TPB-X that makes it a remarkably potent adsorbent is its highly porous structure. Meanwhile, TPB-X is amenable to various kinds of functional modifications which can alter its properties in liquid media and its interaction with substrates. This work seeks to showcase the utilization of TPB-X as a chemically resilient porous organic support, allowing for the development of fully organic, highly porous, and reusable adsorbents.
