Phase change fluid under electric field is known as one of the most promising candidates as a smart material for various industrial utilizations such as human muscle stimulators, dampers, valves, pumps, and seismic controlling frame structure owing to their fast phase transition time and controllable shear viscosity. In this study, the phase change properties (Liquid to Solid and Solid to Liquid) of fluid in accordance with modification degree of polymer micro-particle dispersed in oil are investigated. Through alkylation, the phase change degrees (Liquid to Solid) of fluid are analyzed as various modification degrees of functional groups of particle surface under electric fields. As a result, the phase change degrees related to modification of the particle surface are highly influenced by polarity more than unshared electron pair at their surface. |
