Tackifiers are chemical compounds used in formulating adhesives to increase the stickiness of the surface of the adhesive called tack. They are usually resins sorted into four groups, such as rosin, terpene, C5 aliphatic hydrocarbons, and C9 aromatic hydrocarbons. Because many of tackifier resins in acrylic adhesives are composed of multicomponent mixtures, analysis of tackifiers tends to be complicated to detect of it. In the present work, four classes of tackifier resins were studied using pyrolysis-gas chromatography. Their complex mass spectra were interpreted and used as reference spectra for subsequent analyses. These data were also used to identify the tackifiers in acrylic adhesives as additives. |
