Fabrication of carbon nanofibers using 6FDA-durene and their supercapacitor performance |

Carbon nanofibers are generally fabricated by thermal treatment of electrospun nanofibers. Porous carbon nanofibers are good candidate for electrodes in supercapacitors since the energy can be sotred in the electrochemical double layer of the electrode and electrolyte interface. 6FDA (hexafluoroisopropylidene diphthalic anhydride)-based aromatic polyimides have a large free volume, which can make them excellent precursors for porous carbon nanofibers. For further improvement of surface area and porosity, surface treatment was conducted using ethylene diamine (EDA) vapor. The uniform surface treatment was done due to high vapor pressure of EDA and surface morphology was not changed siginificantly after the treatment. Cyclic voltammetry was measured using carbon nanofibers as electrodes using coin cells, and it was clearly shown that carbon nanofibers dervied from treated 5FDA-durene have higher specific capacitances due to their high surface porosity. |
