Activated carbon has been considered to be one of the promising methods for upgrading biogas because of its heterogeneously porous structures. Also, activated carbon surface can easily be chemically modified to acids or bases to improve the hydrophobicity and thereby enhance gas selectivity and adsorption capacity. In this present study, the adsorption characteristics of H2S and CO2 on activated carbon were examined. As adsorption characteristics, breakthrough curve and adsorption capacity were evaluated using a continuous fixed-bed adsorbed system. We use a mathematical model for estimating breakthrough performances under dynamic conditions. Experimental results were use in the comparison of model approaches. The adsorption and mass transfer parameters in the resulting mathematical model were determined from experimental data. Using those parameters, calculated breakthrough curves were compared experimentally observed adsorption data. |
