Low-bandgap polymers as donor materials for organic photovoltaics(OPVs) have become an active area of research, and the major direction of recent researches is to reduce the bandgap to absorb wide range of the solar spectrum. However, studies on absorbance which is equally important for OPVs applications are relatively rare. In this study, we report on platinum-acetylide-based new low-bandgap polymers with highly enhanced absorbance by adopting conjugated bridging units into the polymer main chain. Polymers were synthesized and characterized by photophysical studies, and the light-absorbing property was also calculated by the density functional theory (DFT) method. We observed photovoltaic behavior from bulk-heterojunction solar cell devices based on an active layer of polymer/PCBM blends. |
