Hydrogen is considered as a suitable substitute because of a high energy density and possibility to be used without toxic by-products. Photocatalytic water splitting can be considered as the ideal and eco-friendly way to produce hydrogen. Catalysts containing noble metals such as Pt or Pd have excellent photocatalytic activity of HER, but due to their high price and limited reserves, they need to be replaced with relatively inexpensive and earth abundant materials. For this reason, in this study, we developed a new synthetic method that can obtain CuSe by a simple and mild condition process and applied to the photocatalytic HER. The rate of hydrogen generation was estimated as 794.6 μmol/g·h for CuSe nanoparticles which synthesized to have a hierarchical structure with a size of 40.3 nm, under full spectrum conditions. This study highlights that the photocatalytic activity of the synthesized CuSe was significantly improved through additional treatment with indium chloride. |
