A potential coating material showing significant antimicrobial activity for prolong period of time, to preserve the surfaces of a broad range of materials is prepared. In the structure of the prepared material, catechol moiety of adhesive dopamine is conjugated with 4-bromobutanoyl chloride and a long chain quaternary ammonium have subsequently quaternized on the prepared of adhesive coating (Dopa-Br-C12). The coating monomer shows substantial stable to retain on applied surface, and quaterinary amine with alkyl chain ensure antibacterial activity. The successful formation of Dopa-Br-C12 confirms by using 1H-NMR, FT-IR and XPS characterization. The efficient antimicrobial effect under normal and extreme stress condition has been demonstrated due to the biocidal effect of quatrenized amine when the materials were applied on the surface of various substrates. |
