제목 Water management by hydrophobic catalyst layers in a proton exchange membrane fuel cell application
초록 Water management is one of the major issues for optimizing proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Electro-osmotic drag and oxygen reduction reaction cause the water flooding which results in clogging pores for gas transport to active catalyst sites. In this study, a two-dimensional PEMFC model is developed to investigate the liquid water distribution in the PEMFC using hydrophobic catalyst layers. In addition, parametric study was proceeded with various pore sizes of catalyst layers. By introducing hydrophobic catalyst layers in PEMFC, it has been shown that the water flooding phenomena is reduced compared by using conventional hydrophilic catalyst layers.
