Chemically Modified PVDF-based Membranes Fabricated by Vapor Induced Phase Separation (VIPS) toward Suppression of Fouling Issues |

Membrane separation technology has been considered one of the most efficient and little energy-consuming means in the various separation systems. Fouling is one of the considerable problems in membrane-based water treatment applications. The increasing hydrophilicity of the membranes by chemical modification can offer better membrane fouling resistance. Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is generally used for water treatment membranes. However, it suffers from modifying hydrophilicity because of its inert chemical structure. This study synthesized the double bond-contained PVDF (DPVDF) from the PVDF-CTFE mother polymers. The acquired DPVDF has enriched double bonds, which give rise to postsynthesic modification after fabrication of the membranes. The resulting DPVDF membranes were evaluated for their target membrane performances. |
