This study introduces a robust approach to fabricate nuts shell-mimetic microcapsules (NSMCs), where shell has a layered structure with polysaccharides and gelatin capsules having an antioxidant through layer-by-layer deposition. The mechanical strength of the shell improved commonly as increasing the number of the layers and the degree of cross-linking of the polysaccharides. We also confirmed that the co-deposition of a phenolic compound, tocopherol, in polymeric micelles with the shell layers allowed the NSMCs to exert antioxidant effects against the influx of oxygen from the atmosphere. These results highlight that our NSMC system has significant stabilizing capabilities both mechanically and chemically for micropackaging of internal liposoluble bioactive ingredients. |
