Enhancement of electric double-layer capacitance properties of fluorinated rice husk-based activated carbon by plasma |

The electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC) characteristics of fluorinated rice husk-based activated carbon (RHAC) is measured. The specific capacitance of the plasma fluorinated RHAC-based EDLC is measured in a 1 M NaCl electrolyte, in which it is observed that the specific capacitances increased from 111 and 23 F g-1 to 201 and 57 F g-1 with the scan rates of 5 and 50 mV s-1, respectively, in comparison to those of a nonfluorinated RHAC-based EDLC when the CF4 gas flow rate is 20 sccm and the reaction time is 15 min. This enhancement in capacitance can be attributed to the synergistic effect of increased polarization on the RHAC surface by plasma fluorination, and specific surface area, micro, and mesopore volume induced by silicon contained in rice husk. The observed increase in polarization is derived from a highly electronegative fluorine functional group that emerged due to the fluorination process. |
