Researches on the removal of radioactive ions using porous materials have attracted great attention after an accident of Fukushima nuclear power plant in 2011. This accident causes a concern on a radioactive contamination due to a leakage of contaminated water including radionuclides such as 137Cs, 60Co, and 90Sr. Since 442 nuclear power plants are still in operation in the world, the development of adsorbents for the removal of radioactive ions is important to deal with the accidents regarding nuclear power. Here, several researches are summarized on recent developments in the carbon-based materials for the adsorption of radioactive ions. The surface modification and morphological properties of adsorbents are presented. In addition, this review proposes further works for the removal of radioactive ions in conclusion. |
