제목 Effect of Processing Parameters of High Molecular Weight of Atactic Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) on the Morphology of PVA Nanofiber Prepared by Electrospinning
초록 Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) obtained by the saponification of poly(vinyl acetate) is a linear semicrystalline polymer. PVA fibers have high tensile and compressive strength, tensile modulus, and abrasion resistance because of the highest crystalline lattice modulus. To maximize these physical properties, molecular weight, degree of saponification, and syndiotacticity should be increased. Electrospinning is a process that produces continuous polymer with diameters in the sub-micron range through the action under the external electric field imposed on a polymer solution or melt. An electric field is used to create a charged jet of PVA solution. As this jet travels in air, so the solvent evaporates leaving behind a charged fiber that can be electrically deflected or collected on a metal target. In this study, we researched effect of processing parameters of PVA on the morphology of atactic PVA nanofiber obtained by electrospinning. That is, the effects of electrical field, temperature, conductivity, and viscosity of the electrospinning process and initial polymer concentration were investigated. The structure and morphology of PVA nanofibers with number-average degree of polymerization of 4,000 was investigated by scanning electron microscopy, optical microscope, and differential scanning calorimetry.
