Tumor targeting effect of iron oxide nanoparticle-loaded nano-carriers |

Generally, the physicochemical parameters (eg. size, shape, and mechanical property, etc) of nano-systems are important to meet a sufficient targeting efficiency and prolonged life time in vivo. In this study, we prepared an iron oxide nanoparticle (IONP) loaded functional nano-carrier with different loading contents to control the mechanical properties of the system, and compared the effects of tumor targeting and imaging with loading contents of IONP. The mechanical properties of nano-carriers were successfully controlled and affected the magnetic resonance contrast effect, cellular uptake, and bio-distribution of the system. Interestingly, the nano-carriers with more rigid characteristics showed lower tumor targeting efficiency than soft and flexible nano-carriers.
