제목 Microstructural, Mechanical, and Electrochemical Properties of Ice-Templated Cu Foam with Directional, Lamellar Pores
초록 Copper (Cu) foams are fabricated by directional freezing of aqueous suspensions of nanometric CuO powders followed by ice sublimation, reduction to Cu in Ar-5% H2 gas and sintering. During slurry solidification, parallel, lamellar, centimeter-long ice dendrites grow, pushing the CuO powders into interdendritic spaces. Upon subsequent ice sublimation, the ice dendrites creat pores surrounded by CuO walls that are subsequently reduced to Cu and sintered; these ice-templated dendrite walls also display surface pores on the order of a few micrometers. The resulting Cu foams show oriented, lamellar macropores (beneficial to permeability) and walls micropores (beneficial to surface area) and are thus considered promising for use in electrochemical cells. The ice-templated Cu foams, with pore directions parallel and perpendicular to the direction of compressive loading, show ductile compressive behavior with high yield stress, ductility and energy absorption. The morphology of metal foam can significantly affect the conductivity, we examined the effect of morphology and porosity of Cu foam synthesized in this study on the conductivity experimentally, and compared the result with a theoretical prediction. The basic electrochemical properties of the Cu foam are also measured and discussed for its potential use in electrochemical cell.
