Various dye molecules have been investigated for applications in color filters of liquid crystal display panels. Dyes can be dispersed finely comparing with pigments. Therefore, dyes can reduce the light scattering and improve brightness and contrast. But they can aggregate during the baking process even though they are soluble in the solvents. Large dye aggregates will increase the light scattering and deteriorate the brightness and contrast. We have designed binder polymers to prevent dye aggregation by introducing the groups compatible with dyes. Binder polymers have been synthesized using methacrylic acid, butyl methacrylate, 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate and the monomer which is compatible with dyes by free radical polymerization. The synthesized binder polymers suppress the dye aggregation and give better spectral properties than the conventional binder polymers. |
