Synthesis of alternating copolymers consisting of N-octyldodecyldithieno[2,3-b;7,6-b]carbazole and N-octylthieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione units for photovoltaic applications |
초록 |
One of the approaches to synthesize low band-gap polymers is to combine electron-rich monomers (electron-donors) with electron-poor monomers (electron-acceptors) in alternating fashion. In this study, N-octyldodecyldithieno[2,3-b;7,6-b]carbazole, which has a carbazole moiety in the center and thiophene rings fused at the ends, was chosen as an electron-rich monomer. This highly fused aromatic molecule was expected to exhibit high charge mobility owing to its strong intermolecular π-π structure. The long alkyl chain was designed to achieve good solubility. On the other hand, N-octylthieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione was synthesized as an electron-acceptor monomer since the accepter-based polymer solar cells usually show high open circuit voltages and high fill factors. The synthesis and some basic characterizations of the polymers will be presented in details. |
