Solid-State NMR Studies of Sulfonated Polyether Ether Ketone Polymer Membranes |

Numerous polymer materials are under development to enhance the performance of polymer electrolyte membranes in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC). Among these, sulfonated polyether ether ketone (S-PEEK) and its hybrid materials are considered to be one of the leading candidates due to their stability and high conductivity. The conductivity of S-PEEK depends primarily on the degree of sulfonation (DS) of individual polymer chains. Here, we synthesized seven samples of S-PEEK with various DS (42-66%) and studied the conductivity and the molecular motions of the polymers as a function of DS using solid state NMR techniques. |
