The Patterning of Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Fluorescent Pattern Polymer |

Photo-reaction of a fluorescent polymer, s-triazine bridged p-phenylene vinylene polymer (STPPV), by UV exposure resulted in fluorescence quenching and a change in surface wettability. The UV-exposed region was not only highly bio-compatible but also provided selective mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) attachment on it. This selective attachment of MSCs on fluorescent pattern films resulted from hydrophilic interaction between UV exposed region and extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins such as collagen and gelatin. Also, the proliferation rate and differentiation rate of MSCs cultured on UV exposed surface (DTOPV+UV) was higher than that of the unexposed surface. The cell location and pattern images were easily detected through a microscope with or without an excitation probe beam by using the emission from the DTOPV pattern. These studies provide a potential opportunity for the investigation of stem cells including bioengineering and tissue regeneration. |
